Confirmation 2018:  The Wisdom of the Journey

Confirmation, “The Wisdom of the Journey,” begins tomorrow morning. Once a month between now and the end of May there will be an open invitation to the congregation to join Lars in the labyrinth walks that will lend an important element to the shape of his confirmation study. Each walk will draw a theme(s) from a scripture text. This first walk will feature verses from Genesis 2 and 3 and the journey of Adam and Eve. Please join us in the lower level of the church at 9 am to walk with Lars this month. Thank you to Roger and Becky for taping the labyrinth down for our use during confirmation and at other times.

Hurricane Florence:  Church World Service Needs to Replenish Kits

Those of us who have signed up to bring items or cash for the CWS hygiene kits are asked to have our donations here by Sunday, October 14. Thank you for your generous support.

There is also paper information on the sale in our Gathering Area. See Dawn with any questions. Bulbs will be delivered to your home. 50% of the sales amount goes to Mayfield.

Liturgists and Hospitality Hosts

There are some open spaces in the October calendar for both liturgists and hospitality hosts. The calendar hangs above the upstairs sausage freezer. Consider filling in your name soon.

Upcoming Events

October 7 – World Communion Sunday – since 1933 the first Sunday in October has been observed as World Communion Sunday. It highlights our interconnection with other congregations throughout the world.
October 11 – Mayfield Fellowship will meet at Oakcrest for lunch. October is a month of awareness around domestic violence. Our program will be given by staff from Safe Passages, our local domestic violence shelter. Please sign up to let us know you will be there.
October 17 – Church Council, 6:00 pm
October 21 – Mayfield’s 158^th Anniversary Celebration – following a special worship service, we will enjoy our anniversary luncheon. The particulars of the day will be shared next month.
November 4 – 2^nd Confirmation Labyrinth Walk and Memorial Sunday
November 17 – Fall Pancake Breakfast – 6:30 – 11:00 am

Remember that Mayfield is a wonderful venue that can be rented by various groups. Our trustees have worked hard this past year to update our rental policies and to welcome a small number of rental groups. Who do you know who might be interested in having an event here?
