Happy first hours of fall 2018. One of the quieter sides of the season is the scattering of an abundance of seeds. For next year’s monarchs, these milkweed seeds are essential.

Confirmation 2018:  The Wisdom of the Journey

The journey theme has been woven into the texture of the Mayfield congregation since our earliest years on the Underground Railroad.  It continues today in our commitment to prairie habitat restoration for the migrating monarchs and other pollinators. This year’s confirmation theme is “The Wisdom of the Journey.” Members of the congregation will be invited in various ways to share that journey between now and June 9, 2019. First and foremost, consider joining the monthly confirmation labyrinth walk. The first walk will take place next Sunday, September 30 as the program begins.  Watch next week’s memo for more details.

Don’t forget that our children’s education program began last week. They are currently exploring wisdom too. Classes are held at 9:00 am on Sundays.

Hurricane Florence:  Church World Service Needs to Replenish Kits

In response to fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters around the globe, Church World Service empties its warehouses filled with hygiene kits, sewing kits, school kits, and storm buckets. Hurricane Florence is just the latest of such events to diminish the supply of kits. We are in the process of assembling 30 health kits. These are the items that are still needed to complete those kits:  30 hand towels (15” x 28” to 16” x 32”), 30 wide-tooth combs, 150 standard size band-aids, and $40 in processing fees. Please use the sign-up sheet in the gathering area to indicate how many of which item you can donate or email Martha with that information. We intend to assemble the kits in October. Thank you to everyone who signed up for items last Sunday.

Liturgists and Hospitality Hosts

There are some open spaces in the October calendar for both liturgists and hospitality hosts. The calendar hangs above the upstairs sausage freezer.  Consider filling in your name soon.
