Movie Night at the Robs

Tonight, May 26, is our first summer movie night in the Robs’ backyard. The movie will start about 8:15 pm. You are welcome to come and mingle any time after 7:30 pm. Tonight we will be seeing The Greatest Showman, a winter hit in the theaters. Popcorn, a special theme treat, ice water, and insect repellent will be provided. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on and other snacks or beverages if you would like. And feel free to invite friends. There is plenty of parking on one side of their street and in the grass off the alley behind their house. Hope to see you there.

Father’s Day Offering

This year’s Mother’s and Father’s Day offerings are united by the theme of Younger and Older. Our “younger” offering for Mother’s Day benefited Hearts to Art, a special interdisciplinary arts camp, based in Chicago, for children and young people ages 7-14, who have experienced the death of one or more parents. Our “older” offering for Father’s Day will be given to DeKalb County Rehab (DCR). Throughout the year, organizations across the county are invited to send financial gifts to DCR so they can use that support for special needs of some of their residents whose financial resources are very limited. You are invited to contribute $5 for each man you would like to remember or honor this year. The sheet on which to record your offering accompanies this memo. There are also copies of it in the Gathering Area at church. Please have your names to the church office by Wednesday, June 13, so they can be published in our June 17 worship bulletin. Special Mother’s and Father’s Day offerings at Mayfield are a longstanding and treasured tradition.

Sunday June 3

On Sunday June 3 we will be presenting Bibles to three of our children and honoring Cliffton’s recent graduation from Genoa Kingston High School. Plan to be with us when we celebrate our children and young people as they grow. Peggy also reports pollinator activity in the large pollinator box Cliffton created for his Eagle Scout project.

June 14 Mayfield Fellowship Program and Other Dates – Mark Your Calendars

On June 14 we will be at Mayfield in the Monarch Waystation. We will have box lunches, ordered ahead of time, and will have an opportunity to participate in a project to enhance and ready the Waystation for the July 14 DeKalb County Garden Walk. Use the signup sheet in the Gathering Area or be in touch with Ann T. to let her know you will be there on 6/14 and to order your lunch. August 9  JT will host us at the Prairie State Winery where we will have a tour of this local business and also purchase lunch. On October 11 we will be at Oakcrest. We will share lunch in their dining room and have an informative program provided by Safe Passage. Our annual Christmas meeting will be held on December 13 at Wilma and Rita’s. Bring a dish to share and board books for the Children’s Waiting Room. At this meeting we will divide the money collected by the Fellowship during the year among various agencies and programs in DeKalb County, hear a Christmas story, and participate in a robust rendering of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Thank you to everyone who signed Anita’s graduation banner and contributed materials for the scrapbook that Diana and Sue G made for her.  Our connection with JAMS and their students enriches life for them and for us.

Canoe/Kayak Time on the Kish and Picnic at Phyllis’ Farm

On Sunday afternoon, June 17, we will put into the Kish at 1 pm and will begin to eat around 3 pm. Come for the whole afternoon or just the picnic. Bring a side dish or desert to share. This is a treasured intergenerational time in our year. Who would you like to invite to join us? Please use the sign-up sheet at church to indicate you are coming, how many are in your party, and what you are bringing. These numbers are important to make sure we have enough canoes.

June Church Council Meeting is Wednesday, June 20 at 6:00 pm.

Speak to Diana or Peggy if you are interested in helping in the Monarch Waystation this summer. Peggy will also be inviting us soon to her home to help with further sorting and weighing of plastic caps. We are getting close to the amount we need for our two recycled plastic waystation benches.

Loving Support for Dawn and Phyl

It is with sadness that I share with you information I received from Phyl yesterday. Dawn’s youngest brother David died in a farm-related accident on Thursday, May 24. Our love and prayers surround them in their shock and grief. Cards and greetings may be sent to them at 2122 Rio Grande Avenue, Billings, SD  57006.

The Banner Is Finished

“Hate Has No Home Here” Banner

Last Sunday on Pentecost, the completed banner was revealed. Roger and Becky have been slowly putting this together across the seasons of Lent and Eastertide. Pentecost is remembered as the time when all could understand one another, each in his or her own language. We seek to be a community of that understanding where “Hate Has No Home Here.”  This tagline was first developed in the North Park neighborhood of Chicago late in the fall of 2016.  If you look at the photos in the middle and top portions of the banner, you will notice many familiar Mayfield faces. This banner hanging with our welcome banner visualizes a central faith commitment at Mayfield.
