Mayfield Memo 03012019

The sunset caught in the icy field behind the parsonage reminds me of the beauty of the sunrise and sunset captured in the waves and the wet sand at the shores of oceans and the Great Lakes.

The next Confirmation Intergenerational Labyrinth Walk—March 3 – 9:00 am

This Sunday is the final Sunday in the season of Epiphany. Our journey text for the day will be the Transfiguration story, a journey bathed in light, Luke 9:28-36. Epiphany ends in a burst of light mirroring the starlight with which it began. Walkers of all ages are invited to join us that morning. New walkers are always welcome.

Flashlights Needed

If you are going to be in worship this Sunday, please bring a flashlight or even two flashlights with you. They can be flashlight of any size. The more light we have, the better it will be. Thanks for adding your light.

You Can Help

We need the cardboard fronts of boxes – cereal boxes, cake mixes, granola bar boxes, cracker boxes, etc. We just need the box front, not the entire box. You can recycle the rest of the box at home. Please bring them to church and leave them on one of the long tables in the Gathering Area. These box fronts will be the used in an activity our children are undertaking for The Bookcase Project. Your cardboard participation will be invaluable to our efforts. Part of the strength of Mayfield as a congregation lies in varied opportunities for all of us to engage!

DeKalb/Sycamore Bookcase Project

Our collection of new and gently used picture books for The Bookcase Project will conclude on Sunday, March 10 when this year’s books will be dedicated. Your books will be appreciated through that date. Thank you.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and comes this year on Wednesday, March 6. The word Lent has very old roots in several European languages, all of them rendering a meaning around lengthening. It is a clear reference to the lengthening of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere during this season. Lent will offer us an opportunity to continue our yearlong spiritual focus on how we belong. Our theme for the season is taken from a line by Nelle Morton, The Journey Is Home. Worship will allow us different perspectives on the texture of our belonging to the journeys of our lives. Ash Wednesday worship will be at 6:30 pm on March 6.
