AFTER:
A year and a half after we collected our first plastic caps, hundreds of pounds of plastic have been converted into three plastic benches for the Monarch Waystation. They will be so beautiful and functional in the years ahead. One of them will be featured in the Children’s Moment on Sunday. Thank you to Peggy and JT for transporting the plastic and picking the benches up in southern Indiana and to Ann T for the use of a large van from the family business to transport them. It is hard now to imagine that five summers ago, the Waystation was simply a swirl of black plastic laid out all summer to prepare the ground for what was to come.
Our prayers are with the 32nd General Synod of the United Church of Christ. This biennial national meeting of the denomination is happening in Milwaukee from June 21-25.
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Offerings
On Sunday a check for $445 will be sent to the Foundation A. Jean Brugger which provides multiple social services in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Thank you for your generosity through our Mother’s Day Offering which makes this gift possible. Our collection for the Father’s Day Offering benefiting the Hearts to Art Chicago-based summer camp for children who have experienced the death of a parent will continue through the end of the month. Please mark your check or envelope Father’s Day Offering. Thank you for all you have given to both of these offerings and for the lives of the many women and men remembered and honored with this year’s offerings.
Cliffton Needs Lincoln Pennies
Cliffton is attending an international scouting event in mid-July and needs lots of 2019 Lincoln pennies. The young men at this event exchange small tokens of their home area. Lincoln pennies are certainly appropriate for Illinois. If you have any 2019 pennies, please bring them to church in the next few weeks. You can donate them or trade your 2019 pennies for pennies from other years in the penny jar in the Gathering Area.
Soap Suds for the Monarchs
We are hoping the weather will allow us to host our annual car wash to benefit the Monarch Waystation, staffed by our children and several adult helpers, this Sunday, June 23. You will have the opportunity to leave after church with a clean vehicle and to give a free will gift for the maintenance of the Waystation. Thanks to Dawn and John for coordinating this event. If it is a rainy morning, the car wash will be rescheduled for a later Sunday.
A Summer Day in the Woods – for members and friends of Mayfield will be held at Russell Woods, Saturday June 29. We will share a potluck meal at 1 pm in the nature center. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share as well your place setting (we will have mugs and glasses there). Meat, cold drinks, and coffee will be provided. You are welcome to come out to Russell Woods earlier in the day if you would like and to invite others to join us. And if you are going to canoe or kayak to the forest preserve, there is a place at Russell Woods where you can easily get out of the river. There is plenty of eating and conversation space in the nature center and lots for people of all ages to do inside the building and outside. On the sign-up sheets in the Gathering Area, please indicate you are coming, how many are in your group, and what you will be bringing. Thank you to the Council for organizing this summer outdoor event.
Good news. We have some leftover bags of plastic caps that will go to the Granville Church collection for their bench. This large amount of caps may get them to their goal. Becky will deliver them on our behalf to the church.
Looking Ahead – July Intergenerational Labyrinth Walk
