In case you wonder whatever happens with all those paper towel tubes you collect for Ravenswood School in Chicago where Molly teaches, take a look. Here is this week’s airplane project from her classroom. Perhaps a future Boeing engineer is in the mix! Paper towel tubes are needed again to replenish the supply. You can bring them any Sunday. Thanks.
Pentecost/Confirmation Was a Wonderful Morning
Thank you to all who participated in Lars’ confirmation study this year and who were there in person and in spirit to celebrate with him last Sunday. Several of you have asked about the words he shared in worship. They will arrive to you in a separate email.
A Musical Weekend
The 19th annual Gurler House Folk Music Festival will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm. The historic Gurler House is located at 205 Pine Street in DeKalb. This festival is free. There will be food and beverages for sale. Among the performers are the Conley Trio (Jen, Ellen, and Nelle) from 12:30 am until 1:30 pm. In the midst of their performance will be a joint piece with The Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra which Jen directs. Carolyn and Sophie both play in this ukulele orchestra too. Jen’s brother Joe, an award-winning folk artist, will be playing from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. It will be a wonderful opportunity to hear some amazing traditional music.
Worship on Sunday, June 16 will feature quite a bit of special music under Tyler’s direction. Come and enjoy the melodies of the morning.

Mayfield Monarch Waystation Bench Update
Peggy and JT will be on their way to southern Indiana on Sunday with a truckload of plastic. Monday, they will be returning with three recycled plastic benches. Again we acknowledge the gifts of so many people who saved plastic caps with us and the Scott family’s time helping to pack the truck.
Congratulations to the Sycamore Girls’ Softball Team
Their recent state victory was especially celebrated by Ann T. whose granddaughter played on the team and by JoAnn whose son is an assistant team coach.
Council Members Note – June Council Meeting – Wednesday, June 19 – 6:30 pm
Soap Suds for the Monarchs
Our annual car wash to benefit the Monarch Waystation, staffed by our children and several adult helpers, will take place on Sunday, June 23. You will have the opportunity to leave after church with a clean vehicle and to give a free will gift for the maintenance of the Waystation. Thanks to Dawn and John for coordinating this event.
A Summer Day in the Woods – for members and friends of Mayfield will be held at Russell Woods, Saturday June 29. We will share a potluck meal at 1 pm in the nature center. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share as well your place setting (we will have mugs and glasses there). Meat, cold drinks, and coffee will be provided. You are welcome to come out to Russell Woods earlier in the day if you would like and to invite others to join us. And if you are going to canoe or kayak to the forest preserve, there is a place at Russell Woods where you can easily get out of the river. There is plenty of eating and conversation space in the nature center and lots for people of all ages to do inside the building and outside. On the sign-up sheet in the Gathering Area, please indicate you are coming, how many are in your group, and what you will be bringing. Thank you to the Council for organizing this summer outdoor event.
Remember, we are saving plastic caps for the Granville UCC. Bring them to church in coming weeks. Becky will deliver them on our behalf to the Granville church.
Northern Illinois Food Bank
Our continued support of the Northern Illinois Food Bank is crucial. Donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank can be given by way of the offering plate or the food bank box. Often donations to food banks drop off in warmer months. Hunger is a fact for many of our neighbors year round, and food and monetary gifts are always needed.
