Whether it is a single bloom or one of many, a young bloom or one getting close to just the seeds and no more petals, purple cone flowers offer consistent beauty on the prairie throughout the growing season.

A Heartfelt Thanks

A heartfelt thanks is extended to the Robs, who back in the depths of winter organized our upcoming Chicago theater trip tomorrow. Over 30 of us will be filled with the inspirational story and touching music of the Tony Award Winning musical “Come From Away.”

UCC All Church Offering – The Christmas Fund – Christmas in July at Mayfield

This is the last Sunday when we will be collecting this year’s Christmas offering. Please mark your gifts clearly. Your generous participation in this offering of the United Church of Christ is appreciated.

Music at Mayfield

With a mixture of sadness and joy, we will be sending Tyler on his way to graduate school Sunday. Pursuing a graduate music program has been a dream he shared with us as he led worship on June 16. By the end of the week, he will be in California as his dream unfolds. He has blessed us with energy, creativity, and a unique and broad musicality this last year. Sunday will be a time for us to say “thank you and Godspeed.” Jen has agreed to temporarily fill the musician role at Mayfield as the Deacons undergo a search for our next permanent musician.

Mayfield Fellowship Meeting – August 8, 2019 – noon at Mayfield

We will enjoy a potluck picnic lunch at church and a program update about Hearts to Art, presented by Molly Mehl. Hearts to Art was the recipient of our Father’s Day Offering this year. This year’s camp with a theme of Becoming will end later today. Use the sign-up sheet in the Gathering Area to indicate you will be with us on 8/8 and what you will be bring.

August Intergenerational Labyrinth Walks

At our last walk on July 21, the group of gathered walkers decided we would like to start walking twice a month. Our August group walking Sundays will be August 11 and 25 at 9:00 am. People of all ages, those who have walked before and those who have not, are invited to join us in this very old and very contemporary spiritual practice. On August 11, we will walk with these words from Gunilla Norris in heart and mind:  “How we walk this life is our own journey. But what we come to be is the gift we are to share with others.” Join us on August 11.

Northern Illinois Food Bank

Remember, our support of the Northern Illinois Food Bank is ongoing. Gifts can be given at any time by way of the offering plate or food bank box. Start watching for peanut butter on sale. We will be taking a peanut butter offering for the food bank in September. There is never enough peanut butter for the demand. A small pile of peanut butter jars is beginning to appear at church. The peanut butter offering is being organized by the Deacons.

No more plastic caps or pill bottles are needed.  Please do not bring them to church.  But do take a few moments to sit on the benches in the Waystation made from all the plastic we collected with help from many others.  Thank you.
