This post contains a link for this evening’s Maundy Thursday worship. The format is a bit different from earlier Sunday services and includes written, audio, and video pieces. These are the materials you can set up ahead of time at home to fully participate in the service. Hand lotion or oil for the hand massage. Some form of bread or crackers and a beverage (wine, juice, water) for communion. For the Tenebrae portion of the service, you will need nine sources of light — candles or lamps or overhead lights, or a mixture.  Whatever you use for the Christ light is relit at the end. If it is a candle, matches or a lighter should be close at hand.

The first part of the service includes the opening visual, information on Maundy Thursday and two Gathering Prayers. Take your time with these prayers. Read them aloud or silently a few times. After a moment of silence, the second part of the service is the evening reflection; you can listen to the audio version or read the text version or both. The links in the worship bulletin are all in blue and underlined. Simply click on those. The third part of the service is a link to “Jesus, Remember Me” and a simple communion liturgy for you to do at home. The fourth and final part of the service is the Tenebrae, which begins with special music offered by Jen and Sophia, access by the link provided, and Readings and Extinguishing of Lights. Click on the audio link to listen to the readings and prompts for when to extinguish each light. There is twenty seconds of silence between readings and also at the pause point after the final reading. The easiest way for you to create a big noise signifying the death is a loud clap with your hands.

Blessings on this night as we worship scattered in our homes.  Let me know if you have any difficulty with the links. Peace, Martha
