Taste of Kenya
It was good to see so many Mayfield people at the October 11 Taste of Kenya event. It was a delicious, spirited, and creative evening celebrating the amazing development of JAMS so far and the ongoing bold dreams for greater educational opportunities for girls in Kenya.
Intergenerational Labyrinth Walk – this Sunday, October 13, 9:00 am – everyone is invited to come and walk with one another.
Better Together, our fall emphasis on diversity, will continue this Sunday with more information on JAMS. Nelle will be with us during worship to share some of her experiences over seven months (2018-2019) in developing a music program at JAMS. You may remember that our 2017 Advent mission offering was a part of Nelle’s funding for music at JAMS and that we hosted a concert to raise further funds in the winter of 2018.
Neighbors in Need (NIN) – UCC All Church Offering – October 2019
Our October mission collection is for the UCC Neighbors In Need (NIN) all church offering supporting ministries of justice and compassion. This year’s theme is Love of Children. The love of children supported by this offering is addressed through justice and advocacy efforts, direct service projects funded by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries, and the Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM). The UCC has had historic connections with the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota, Mandan, Hidatasa, Arickara, and Hocak people in North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, and northern Nebraska. There are 20 UCC congregations on reservations and one urban, multi-tribal congregation in Minneapolis. Offering envelopes will be in Sunday morning bulletins for the NIN offering.

October 18-20 Stomping Out Children’s Cancer
The American Cancer Society estimates that 250,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, 700 per day. This year that number included JT’s nephew Chris. Chris’ parents, Rick and Maria, are the owners of Prairie State Winery and will be hosting a weekend-long event, October 18-20, to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. If you stop by the winery for a glass of wine, and make a donation, your wine will be half-price and the winery will match all donations during the weekend up to $10,000. Donations will be directed to St. Jude’s and Cal’s Angels. Currently, childhood cancer research receives less than 4% of the annual budget from the National Cancer Society. Good news for Chris. He has completed four of his six rounds of chemo, and current tests indicate the treatment is very effective with his tumors. Our ongoing prayers are with him.
Memorial Sunday – November 3, 2019

Please get your names in writing to Martha by Wednesday, October 30. Indicate the person’s name, their connection to you, and the date or approximate date of their death.
