Mayfield Memo - 2019 Fellowship Meetings

Our six meetings, every other month, in the even months, will focus this year on issues pertinent to youth and young people and will highlight how we can become more aware of these issues and supportive of all that young people are facing now. Our 2019 program was planned by Ann Thompson, Wilma Miranda, and Rev. Martha.

Thursday, February 14:  Youth Choosing to Serve on Mission Trips

We will meet at the Somerset Farm Clubhouse, beginning at noon.  Bring a favorite dish to share for our potluck lunch.  Joe Munro, Youth Ministries Director at Sycamore UMC will present a program on their multi-year mission trip ministry with youth throughout the area.  Closer to the date, Ann Thompson will provide directions to the clubhouse.

Saturday, April 27: Cultivating Resilient Hearts:  A Legacy for Our Youth (retreat day)

We will begin to gather at McQueen Forest Preserve (north of Kirkland) any time after 8:30am.  The program will run from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Martha will be our retreat leader.  The $20 fee for the day, will include the program and lunch.  Directions will follow in April.  Thank you to Peggy Doty for reserving McQueen for us again.  It is a wonderful retreat space.  Do you have a friend who might enjoy spending this day with us?

Thursday, June 13:  Youth at the Crossroads in Rural America

Our meeting will be at the DeKalb County History Center, 1730 N. Main Street, Sycamore and will begin at noon.  $20 will cover the museum tour and box lunch.  On the tour will be a special Smithsonian Museum traveling exhibit, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America.”

Thursday, August 8:  Youth and Grief

Join us at Mayfield at noon for a picnic and a program with Molly Mehl.  Molly is the assistant director for Hearts to Art, a Chicago-based summer camp for children ages 7-14 who have experienced the death of a parent.  This interdisciplinary arts camp run by the Auditorium Theatre, offers campers the healing power of creative play through dance, theatre, and music.

Thursday, October 10:  Youth and Families Experiencing Homelessness

Ann Werhane will welcome us to Oak Crest, 2944 Greenwood Acres Dr. DeKalb, at noon for lunch and a program provided by Hope Haven.  The lunch charge will be $11.

Thursday, December 12:  Christmas Program:  To Be Young at Heart

June Ehrler will invite us to home, 141 McLaren Drive, Sycamore, for our December meeting.  Our arrival time is noon.  Add your delicious dish to our festive potluck.  The regular features of this holiday meeting will be the same:  a collection of board books for the Children’s Waiting Room, decisions about which agencies and programs in the county to gift with our annual proceeds from Attic Treasures and the Bake Table at the spring and fall Pancake Breakfasts, a rousing rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and the reading of a Christmas Story.

Remember that the Mayfield Fellowship is an open group for women and men in the congregation and others you might want to invite to attend.  We hope to see you often in the coming year.
