Mayfield Memo 12272018

Christmas night brought a fair amount of low swirling fog that was frozen the next morning on needles, branches, and stalks. On Church Road up close to Baseline, I came upon milkweed fluff and seeds frozen in place, close to the ground. After winter’s rest, milkweed across the county will welcome and nurture 2019’s Monarchs.

Thank You

Advent and Christmas have been abundant seasons at Mayfield. Thank you to everyone who sang and played music, donated gifts to Toys for Tots and wrapped presents, collected books for the Children’s waiting room, shared an intergenerational labyrinth walk, lit Advent and Christmas candles and brought candles for our altar of light, decorated the sanctuary, completed Intergenerational Advent activities – George’s bean soup, warm, fluffy blankets for small children, clay pot nativities for the residents of Mendota Lutheran Home, and gift bags for Toys for Tots wrapping days – attended worship, supported our Advent Mission Project, and covered our Bethlehem Table with holiday treats. Christmas worship continues through December 30 (First Sunday after Christmas) and January 6 (Epiphany).

Advent Mission Project

Our Advent Mission Project is raising funds for the transport and processing of all those plastic caps into benches for the Monarch Waystation and wraps up at the end of the month. The benches will be made by a company in southern Indiana. Thus far $630 has been given toward our goal of $800. Additional gifts can be sent in to the church office or placed in the offering plates. Mark your gifts clearly “Benches.” Thank you for your generous support.

Friday Forum – December 28, 2018

The Friday Forum, a weekly in-depth interview, is included in WNIJ’s (89.5 FM and WNIJ.org) Morning Edition, broadcast from 5:00-9:00 am and also can be heard later online. Tomorrow, 12.28.18, Nell Conley will be interviewed about her music program at Jane Adeny Memorial School. Nell is returning to JAMS for another three months in about a week. We are planning when she is back in Illinois in the spring to schedule a time for Nell to present at church and update us on life at JAMS and the developing role of music there.

Thank You Notes Received

Mayfield has received thank you notes from Adventure Works and Safe Passage acknowledging their December gifts from the Mayfield Fellowship.

Annual Meeting Notice

Our constitution requires that notice of the annual meeting be given starting three weeks prior to the meeting. This is the second written notice. The annual meeting of Mayfield Congregational United Church of Christ will be held on Sunday, January 13, following worship. Your attendance and participation are encouraged as we receive annual reports including the 2019 budget and elect new members to the 2019 church council.

Remember that if you need Mayfield sausage for your winter cooking it is always available for sale at church.
